Genoch is 16 miles from Ayr and 22 miles from Prestwick International airport with numerous daily flights from London, Stansted. The cottage is two miles from the village of Straiton, and about half a mile up a farm track. If you are reasonably fit, you could manage without a car. If you are older, or have any illness or disability, you should plan on using a car whilst you are here. Village facilitiesThere is a shop in the village of Straiton (2 miles away) which is open every day and sells groceries and other basic necessities. The village has a café, The Buck, which is open every day during summer months and at weekends in the winter. It has very good coffee and delicious chocolate cake as well as toasties/soup etc. There is also a pub, The Black Bull, which serves good food at lunchtime and in the evening (but not for vegetarians as there are only meat/fish dishes on offer). There is a twice-weekly mobile Post Office service in the village, and the nearest Post Office is in Crosshill, a further three miles from Straiton. Other shopping facilitiesMaybole (6 miles away) has a good supermarket which is open every day including Sunday, as well as a variety of local shops, banks, a post office, filling station and library. Ayr is a sizeable town with two Tesco stores, Morrison’s, Asda, Marks & Spencer. Tesco operate their delivery service throughout the county and will deliver. Transport LinksBUS SERVICE TRAINS run regularly from Glasgow Central to Maybole (sometimes a change in Ayr is necessary but several are direct) and the length of journey is, on average, 1 hour 15 minutes.
